Giving Back

As a Community Benefit Society, The Knot is owned by its members who all have a say on how it is run. Unlike other types of co-operative, profits are not shared with members as a dividend – instead, any profits made are used to benefit the community.

What are the aims of The Knot?

  • To benefit the community now and in the years to come.
  • To invest any profits made back into the community and Sheila Cottage.
  • To retain Sheila Cottage in a way that connects it with its history in West Linton.

Giving back to the community is a major aim for The Knot and so far over £3,000 has been shared out.

Festive Funds

During December 2023 and 2024, The Knot distributed £100 grants to over 30 local groups and organisations covering many sections of the community.

Future Plans – The Knot ‘No Strings’ Community Fund

For 2026 we are launching our new Community Fund with the intention of being able to share funds more regularly, rather than just at Christmas.

Called our ‘No Strings’ Community Fund, grants will be available to individuals, groups and organisations based in the Whipman area.

The Fund is administered by a group of local people who represent different areas of the community and who are independent of The Knot Management Committee.

Each application for funding will be assessed by The Fund Committee to ensure a fair and transparent process. Initially it is envisaged that grants of up to £200 will be available, depending on the level of profits being generated by the shop.
